{"id":13754,"date":"2020-10-23T11:05:42","date_gmt":"2020-10-23T05:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/?p=13754"},"modified":"2020-10-23T11:22:39","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T05:52:39","slug":"impact-google-ads-search-terms-report-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/impact-google-ads-search-terms-report-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Ads &#8216;Search Terms Report&#8217; Change &#038; Its Impact &#8211; A Case Study"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"lead\">It&#8217;s been a month since Google announced limiting the search terms report with terms having significant data, leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/reaction-google-ads-limits-search-terms-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">everyone shocked.<\/a> We looked into two of our accounts to analyze what impact this change has had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What has changed?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Google announced that starting September 2020, the search terms report will exclude terms that were not searched by significant number of users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They did not elaborate more on what \u2018significant number of users\u2019 meant and what are the benchmarks followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, we looked into two of our accounts to understand how the change has impacted the account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Findings<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here onwards the two accounts will be referred to as account A and B. No search terms below 50 impressions were captured in the September month&#8217;s STR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In account A the excluded search terms accounted for about 5.69% of the total impressions in the month of August, whereas in account B the search terms accounted for 4.40% of the total impressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/missing-search-terms-contribution-google-ads-account-A.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13841\" width=\"522\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/missing-search-terms-contribution-google-ads-account-A.png 754w, https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/missing-search-terms-contribution-google-ads-account-A-300x178.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 522px) 100vw, 522px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In account A the impressions change from August to September was -5.82% whereas in account B the impressions change was about -7.20%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In account A the excluded search terms generated 4.91% of total clicks and 2.79% of the total conversions received. In account B, the low impression search terms generated generated 4.03% of the total clicks received and 3.72% of the total conversions, in the month of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/missing-search-terms-contribution-google-ads-account-B.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13840\" width=\"500\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/missing-search-terms-contribution-google-ads-account-B.png 757w, https:\/\/www.karooya.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/missing-search-terms-contribution-google-ads-account-B-300x176.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>These search terms accounted for 2.82% of the total spend in account A and 3.22% of the total spend in account B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The outcome<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the number of  search terms have reduced, they did not contribute much to the two accounts being analyzed here. So, as of now, we can conclude that the accounts in question here, are not missing out on a lot of data.
