Greetings readers! With Twitter becoming increasingly unreliable, this week’s PPCChat discussion which was hosted by Julie F Bacchini, was all about finding and testing a new platform to have PPCChat activities.

Q2: With Twitter becoming increasingly unreliable, where would you like to have PPC Chat activities continue? I’m not going to stop Twitter, but I think it only makes sense to seriously test our other channels for text and audio-based chats. We have the following channels:

  • Slack (obviously!)
  • Discord
  • Private LinkedIn Group
  • I have a profile on Threads, but it’s not ready to host a chat with no hashtags.

Should we be anywhere else?

As a marketer – I have Slack and LinkedIn open often enough. I’m not sure I’ve had many (or any) great LinkedIn groups though. @Galliguez

It’s funny, everyone says they want Slack when I ask. But the Discord is much more active than here. @NeptuneMoon

Private groups are tough. I’m on the chat most weeks – but lurking most of the time. Need a channel that allows the casual user to consume…@Galliguez

You could lurk here though? I’m not saying Slack is the right alternative, but lurking is possible.@NeptuneMoon

Just saying – Twitter users didn’t even need a Twitter account before to read / lurk. @Galliguez

Ah. True. @NeptuneMoon

I think that rule of having to be logged in to read tweets was quietly removed yesterday too. @NeptuneMoon

From what I read, it nuked Twitter’s visibility in search and also essentially created a self DDOS. Which is kinda hilarious @NeptuneMoon

I have never used Discord but pretty much have Slack all the time since we use it at work! I would probably be more involved here than I ever was on Twitter, too @alnicole92

I hear that… but as a long time Twitter user – I personally search for Tweets on Twitter. Not really Googling them. Just like I look for products on Amazon. I guess they need all the traffic they can get…@Galliguez

It was more like if you search for a news story or say a sports story, timely tweets were in search results. Then they were not with the logged-in rule. @NeptuneMoon

Slack, Twitter and Reddit. LI groups aren’t great. I’ve used Discord a few times but never stuck with it. @Austin_Dillman

I also haven’t used Discord before, but not opposed to trying it! Slack and LinkedIn are pretty much always open on my computer too. Reddit could be an interesting option as well. @adclarke10

Reddit has its own issues right now with API changes and the end of third-party apps to view/manage it. @NeptuneMoon

I know nothing can capture all that Twitter has been. At least not right now. @NeptuneMoon

Some countries like their mega-apps. But I like my work on Slack / LinkedIn… and play on Discord. But everything changes. It’d give me an excuse to be on Discord more…@Galliguez

I can’t tell if the rate limits have also been quietly removed? I have not hit the “rate limited” state yesterday or today and I have Tweetdeck open on my computer all the time. I hit it in under 2 hours (of mostly having it in the background) on Monday. @NeptuneMoon

I’d prefer it on Slack. I’m a moderator on a Data Science for SEO discord server and it doesn’t feel as tight as Slack would be in the way a Twitter community/hashtag was. Part of that could be blamed on the fact that one mod has created way too niche of channels rather than keeping them a little broader. Granted, this was also before Discord allowed forums. We’ve since started implementing forum channels instead of discussion channels. Discussion channels were just so messy since most people don’t respond in threads. @EricHeiken

I just added a test forum channel to the discord to see what that is like for that exact reason! @NeptuneMoon

Q3: Have you joined Threads? If so, share you handle here so we can follow each other!

I  joined as neptunemoonllc. I am also trying to get a handle for ppcchat, but it got disapproved. I am appealing that. @NeptuneMoon

Not yet and not sure if I will. As I get older (40 now), my appetite for social media has severely dwindled. As a marketer though, I sometimes feel I need to join just to stay current on any platforms that offer advertising. @Austin_Dillman

I join them to protect my brands. Even if I don’t end up using in a big way. @NeptuneMoon

There are no ads on Threads… yet. But you know there will be! So it’s good to at least be a little familiar with what’s happening over there. @NeptuneMoon

Oh yeah, zero chance that it stays ad-free. ha. @Austin_Dillman

For me too, I need to have tools that help me manage posts across all the platforms. I do a lot of live posting, but I also need to schedule posts. Even without Threads in the mix, I already have more platforms that require manual/direct posting and management than I’d ultimately like. @NeptuneMoon

Haven’t joined. I can’t believe they don’t have a browser experience or a desktop experience. I’m not downloading the app. I don’t like how Meta handles data. @EricHeiken

It is definitely very integrated with Instagram. And yes, app only is BS. @NeptuneMoon

Yes I have – https://www.threads.net/@themarketinganu @TheMarketingAnu

Q4: Is there anything on your mind this week in PPC? Last week was a wild one and this week has been disjointed here in the US w/ the holiday.

I can’t believe we are in Q3 already! @NeptuneMoon

Yes – with the break in the work week in the US… I feel like the week just started. @Galliguez

I have not really been totally sure what day it is all week! @NeptuneMoon

Q5: Are there any other PPC communities that you are a part of? I always like to learn from what others are doing!

I’m in PSA’s Slack and Marketing O’Clock’s Discord… but I’m not terribly active. @Galliguez

I am in both of those as well! @NeptuneMoon

I lurk there more than post with all the posting I do in the PPC Chat channels. @NeptuneMoon
